One of the best things about boating in the Northwest is being able to enjoy each season on the water. Cruising in the Fall, offers great weather, beautiful scenery and less crowds. If you haven’t been cruising in the Fall yet, now is the time.
Visit the San Juan Islands
The anchorages and marinas can be packed up in the San Juan Islands during the summer, but during the Fall you can have them all to yourself. During the Fall, Prevost Bay is a great place to anchor. Take your dinghy to mooring dock and explore Stuart Island. The dock is only 128′, but it does allow for overnight moorage. Stuart Island has a state park that offers lots of trails and things to see, including the old school house. This is a great anchorage where you can find serenity while enjoying nature.
Check out Friday Harbor
Located on San Juan Island, Friday Harbor is a very active port. With leisure craft, sea planes and ferries, the town offers plenty to do. Walking distance from the Friday Harbor marina, you find quaint shops and restaurants without all of the summer crowds. We recommend you make marina reservations as the guest dock can fill up quickly.
Quick Trips from Seattle
If you are looking for a quick trip from Seattle, head over to the Port of Bremerton or Port Orchard. Both are about 14 nautical miles across Puget Sound and easy to get to. Port Orchard offers lots of great restaurants (some with live music) and a walking path along the beach. You can also take the foot ferry from one port to the other.
Be sure to check out Blakely Harbor, Quartermaster Harbor, Port Madison, Blake Island or Mystery Bay for a scenic weekend on the hook. No matter what your destination is, the views along your way will be amazing. There’s something about being on the water that brings us serenity and the Northwest is the best place to be.
Union Marine has a great selection of cruisers ranging from 26′ to 50′, so be sure to check out our inventory and find the best cruiser for you and your family. Plan your Fall boating adventure today and start exploring the beauty of the Northwest!
